New Rule Modifications
Filed Under Rules | Comments Off on New Rule Modifications
At the most recent BC Honda Vancouver Squash League Board of Directors meeting several minor rule modifications were proposed and approved.
They are as follows:
•
> Rule 3.1.3 has been shortened.
Rule 3.1.3 – ORIGINAL
Manipulating the team order to gain an advantage will not be tolerated. If there is any concern over a breach of this rule, captains should resolve the problem before matches begin or declare that match is being played under protest
Rule 3.1.3 – REVISED
Manipulating the team order to gain an advantage will not be tolerated.
•
> Rule 8.2.1 has been struck as it is redundant and is dealt with in rule 7.4.2
Rule 8.2.1
A two (2) point penalty will be assessed for not recording results at the conclusion of matches (Monday or Tuesday evening).
Rule 7.4.2
7.4.2 The home team is responsible for reporting results immediately (by first thing the following morning) online through Quick Draws. Results entered later than Wednesday at noon, for Monday night league, and Thursday at noon, for Tuesday night league, will be subject to a two (2) point penalty.
•
> Rules 8.3.1 and 8.3.2 have had the words “League Coordinator” removed as the League Coordinator is not involved in deciding the outcomes of protests and/or appeals.
8.3.1 – ORIGINAL
A protest of any alleged violation of the rules must be made in writing to the League Coordinator within one week of recognition of the alleged violation, or longer in the case of extenuating circumstances. The League Coordinator and the VSL Board are responsible for ruling on any protest.
8.3.1 – REVISED
A protest of any alleged violation of the rules must be made in writing to the League Coordinator within one week of recognition of the alleged violation, or longer in the case of extenuating circumstances. The VSL Board is responsible for ruling on any protest.
•
> Rule 8.3.2 now states an official timeline of one week for appeals of Board decisions as opposed to “as soon as possible”.
8.3.2 – ORIGINAL
An appeal of any ruling made by the League Coordinator and the VSL Board must be received in writing as soon as possible. The VSL Board will select three (3) Club Reps from a pool of those Club Reps willing to serve on the Appeal Committee when required. The appeal letter plus any other pertinent documentation will be forwarded to the Appeal Committee members for a decision to be reached by a feasible deadline. The decision will be forwarded to the League Coordinator who will forward to the VSL Board and to the Club Rep and Team Captain of the appealing team, and others where applicable. The decision of the Appeal Committee is final.

Filed Under Info for Captains | Comments Off on Captain’s Meeting 2011
Last night the BC Honda VSL held it’s inaugural Captain’s Meeting in the social lounge of the Jericho Tennis Club. We had over 30 people attend and partake in refreshments and the winner of the $50 gift certificate to “Local” restaurant was Doug Hodgins. Congrats!
The board would like to thank club pro Shauna Flath, catering manager Rhonda Porter and AV superstar Dara Sklar for their help in organizing and running this event. We hope to run this event every year and we look forward to any feedback you might have.
If you were unable to attend, a Word document entitled “A Guide to Captaining in the VSL” is now available for download.

New and revised rules for 2011/2012 season
Filed Under Rules | Comments Off on New and revised rules for 2011/2012 season
All club representatives, captains and players and are encouraged to review the rules before the start of every season. Below are the rules that were added or revised in advance of the new season:
2.1.2 REVISED The VSL Board will use final League points (not playoffs) as the primary basis to determine placement of teams for the following season, i.e, two up/two down (Open) and one up/one down (Women). (Starting in the 2012/2013 season, (beginning with the the results of the 2011/2012 season) the process of relegation and promotion between Open Division 1 and Open Division 2 will be one up/one down.) Club Reps may make alternative requests for team placement which will be perused and decided upon by the VSL Board. These requests must be received in writing, or via email, by the League Coordinator by June 30 of each year.
3.1.4 REVISED If a club has more than one team in a division it may choose to have a stronger and a weaker team or two teams of equal strength. Clubs must decide the rosters of each of their teams prior to the start of the season and are not allowed to make significant changes without the written permission of the VSL Board.
3.1.7 NEW Spares cannot play for more that one (1) team per division and to a maximum of two (2) teams per club.
5.2.4 REVISED The rescheduling of an individual match, between two players, will not be allowed unless agreed to by both captains in advance. The rescheduled match must be played BEFORE the date that the two teams are scheduled to meet.
9.2.1 NEW In the semi final round of the playoffs the 1st place team will have home advantage and play the 4th place team. The 2nd place team will have home advantage and play the 3rd place team. The higher ranked of the two semi final winning teams will have home advantage in the finals except in Division 1 where the finals will be played at the club hosting the Wrap Party.
