League survey in the works
Filed Under Survey | Comments Off on League survey in the works
The VSL board are preparing a league wide survey that will be launched here and linked to from our Facebook page. (Yes, we have a Facebook page – go LIKE us!) This short questionnaire will gather feedback from players across the league on topics as varied as the preferred length of our season, league prizes and social events. There will also be an opportunity for individual comments and suggestions.
Look for the VSL survey to launch in the middle of July.

New Rules for the 2012/2013 Season
Filed Under Info for Captains, Info for Club Reps, Info for players, Rules | Comments Off on New Rules for the 2012/2013 Season
At the most recent BC Honda Vancouver Squash League AGM (March 10, 2012) several motions regarding rules were proposed and approved.
They are as follows:
•
> Rule 5.2.3 has been amended to allow matches missed before Christmas to be rescheduled in January.
Rule 5.2.3 – ORIGINAL
Matches missed for unforseeable circumstances (i.e., snowstorms) must be rescheduled promptly. A missed match before Christmas must be rescheduled and played during the Christmas break. Those missed after Christmas must be rescheduled and played up to and including the last scheduled match in that division.
Rule 5.2.3 – REVISED
Matches missed for unforeseeable circumstances (i.e., snowstorms) must be rescheduled promptly. A missed match before Christmas must be rescheduled and played either during the Christmas break or in the month of January following. Those missed after Christmas must be rescheduled and played up to and including the last scheduled match in that division.
•
> A new rule, Rule 7.3.4, was introduced that specifically deals with outcome of a defaulted match.
Rule 7.3.4 – NEW
In the case of a team defaulting, the winning team will receive the average of their scores in the cycle in which the default occurs.
•
> Rule 8.1.3 was revised. QuickDraws, (specifically the VSL rankings on QuickDraws), is now the standard for organizing a team roster.
Rule 8.1.3 – ORIGINAL
Quick Draws’ ranking system may be used by captains as a source of information to decide a player’s position on their team roster.
Rule 8.1.3 – NEW
Quick Draws (VSL) ranking system is to be used by captains to decide a player’s position on their team roster, unless otherwise agreed before play.
•
> Two new rules regarding AGM protocols were introduced.
Rule 10.1.1 – NEW
The VSL AGM will follow a fixed order of business in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order.
Rule 10.1.2 – NEW
A proxy may be used at the AGM. A proxy form must be signed only by the captain of a team and may be given to anyone of his/her choosing who is attending in person at the AGM. The proxy form will be used for voting on matters that are listed on the AGM agenda only, where the captain has given his/her vote(s) to their proxy on those matters, and not on matters raised for the first time and voted on at the AGM.

UPDATED
The purpose of an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to hear from the membership, to hear the Chairperson’s and League Coordinator’s reports, to review the league’s financial report, to review and recommend rule changes and to elect or nominate board members. It is your opportunity as a player in the league to voice your opinions / concerns to the VSL Board about any issues that arise during the league season.
While the AGM is not the place to complain about a particular incident that may have happened during the season, it is a time to review rules and objectives and have a discussion. This is your squash league and we appreciate and encourage your involvement in the league. So come on out!
The AGM agenda was emailed to all captains and club reps on Friday, February 17th:

Most Sporting Team 2011/2012 – Vote Now!
Filed Under Sportsmanship | Comments Off on Most Sporting Team 2011/2012 – Vote Now!
Each year the VSL asks the captains of every team in every division to send us their choice for the most sporting team in their division. This is the team that may have the best referees, the best dinners, the endless full pints, the most honest players or something that sets them apart from all the other teams.
Captains can send their vote to info[at]vancouversquashleague[dot]com
Votes will be accepted until Sunday, March 4th at 9pm: Be sure to include your team name and division. Winning teams will be presented their plaques at the Wrap Party on March 10th.
